  • EA's DRM Tactics -
EA's Digital Rights Management System (anti-piracy software) they are currently using in their latest games is causing a huge stir in the PC gaming community. EA's currently implemented system is Internet-based which many gamers find instrusive and inconvenient. Every new PC game released by EA requires the owner to have an internet connection inorder to install and the owner is limited to only five installs per copy of the game. Note: When a game is uninstalled online the install counter adds one more to the install limit.

Epileptic Aftermath Episode August 6 2008

This will be the last episode of the month unless someone else has the cojones to host and record another show.

Topics

*Cern's Large Hadron Collider Might Make Half-Life 1 Reality - A Reddit (social news website) user, Mad_Gouki points out that CERN's anti-mass spectrometer could cause a resonance cascade. Such of that in Half-Life 1. His post on Reddit concerning this has lead to an actual crowbar being sent to CERN labs. [Video Game References]

*Halo Movie Talk Resurfaces - Stuart Beattie, script writer for Pirates of the Caribbean, has created a script based on Fall of Reach, a novel which detailed the events leading up to the first Halo game. This script has gotten movie bods so hyped up that Kasra Farahani, artist for Spider-Man and Hancock, to create concept art for the film's eventual pitch to Microsoft. [Video Game Movies]

*EA Promises to Stop Making Crappy Games - John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts, has gone out and stated "I think what redeems our industry is quality, and I think we take a step back every time we take a license and exploit it with a crappy game." He also said EA was wrong to assume Xbox 360 and PS3 will lead the current generation, and promised as many as 40 games are in development for Wii and DS. [Interesting]

*Thailand removes Grand Theft Auto IV off store shelves after teenager robs and stabs cab driver - Teenage cab driver killer claims he was recreating a scene from the game. Thai government sends requests to all outlets and shops to pull the game off their shelves and replace them with other titles. A senior official at Thailand's Culture Ministry said the murder was a wake-up call for authorities to tackle the issue of violent video games, and urged parents to pay closer attention to what their children played. "Today it is a cab driver, but tomorrow it could be a video game shop owner." [WHAT THE FUCK]

*World of Warcraft's Recruit-A-Friend Goes Live - Blizzard kicks off its new "Recruit-A-Friend" initiative, where WoW players receive rewards based on how long they get someone new to sign up for WoW. If a WoW player gets his friend to sign up for 30 days, the WoW player recieves 30 days for free. If he gets his friend to sign up for 60 days, that person recives the "Zhevra", a new mount. Episode 6

Show ideas:
  • A TheGunrun Idea - The Demo Kiosk: There should be Kiosks wherever games are sold that would allow anyone to plug in a flash drive of some sort to upload demos of games or perhaps insert a black disk and have it burn you a demo you could later stick in your 360 PC or PS3 to play. I feel that this would advantage people without internet or just slow internet or happen to have their flash drive handy while at a game store.
  • Nintendo admits Wii's lack of storage is a problem Reggie says that with a consumer base that loves virtual console, he faces a challenge in satisfying all these consumers. Nintendo is working on a "range" of fixes to address this. I personally do not use the virtual console, due to the price. All of these virtual console titles are available on the internet and are playable on my psp due to homebrew, for free.
  • Grand Theft Auto 4 is finally confirmed to have a release on the PC The PC versions of the GTA's have been always seen as better versions than the console they were ported from. With the PC version comes modding and the custom music radio station. Hey, where is that exclusive 360 content? Think when that comes out it will also make its way to the pc?
  • Consoles dead by 2020, PC to reign supreme Alex St. John from the Seattle Post Intelligence thinks the Video Game Console will become completely replaced by 2020 due to a shift in consumer electronics to become more minority report like and having computers everywhere that can play almost any game and how digital distribution, in-game advertising, and demos are causing this massive revolution.
  • Wii's Motion Plus device new to 3rd party developers When Nintendo revealed the Motion Plus peripheral for their Wiimote they never informed any of their 3rd party developers prior to this moment. This creates a massive hindrance to third-party games taking advantage of the device anytime soon. 3rd pary Wii games are no where near the quality of 1st party and this isn't a step in the right direction for Nintendo. The potential is there but mostly squandered from any 3rd party games coming out soon.
  • Nintendo's Reggie Wants GTA on the Wii In an interview with MTVMultiplayer Reggie expressed interest in a GTA game created completely from scratch (No Ports) for the Nintendo Wii. This doesn't sound like the Nintendo I know, but with GTA:China Town Wars coming to the DS who knows..
  • Rumor: FF7 for PSN and XBLA This looks interesting, the possibility of playing this 3 disk game once again on a new console. Personally I don't care. It is like Half Life: Source all over again, same game same graphics. Until there is a graphical overhaul or really cheap/free, I'm not playing it.
  • Back to the Future Hoverboard up for auction A genuine wooden Mattel hoverboard is up for auction on eBay for over $30,000. This is just the one used in the movie not a real one, you bojo..

The Poll

This month's poll asks you which one of these possible segments to the podcast you would like to see.

Each segment would have a little audio clip play prior to the segment and have some catchy repeating beat playing in the backround, kinda like Epileptic Gaming's News of the Week.

You options:
  1. Youtube Video of the Week - During the show we will discuss a random youtube video and verbally give out a tinyurl link to the video. Example: "This weeks youtube can be found at http://tinyurl.com/BestTube1 this video just has the most epic music ever.. *guests discuss*"
  2. Best Console News Week - We ask ourselves which of the current gen consoles had the most/best news with in the last seven days. (Wii, Xbox360, & PS3 etc..) Example: "I think the Wii wins best news of the week, because of how bad their E3 press conference was. All the blogs wouldn't shut up.. *guests discuss*"
  3. TheGunrun's Game Idea of the Week - TheGunrun creates a really ridiculous game idea and the guests discuss. Example: "I think there should be a marching band simulator like guitar hero/ddr... *guests discuss/flame*"
  4. The Grief of the Week - TheGunrun, or any of the guests, mostly the gunrun, talks about a method of griefing in a video game. Example: "This week's Grief of the Week is for Team Fortress 2: Learn to use a glitch in building on stairs to create a teleporter that traps people in a teleporter loop..... *guests discuss/flame*"
  5. The Lightning Round - I make a list of 4[could change] old Games and we each go down the line giving each game a score 1 out of 10 and describe the game in one to five seconds. Example: Gunrun:"Sonic the Hedgehog" Guest1: "6, Fucking Fast" Guest2:"1, Gay" Guest3:"10, Like driving a truck through a puppy farm" Guest4:"0, Never played it"
  6. The Shit List - We go down the line of hosts and talk about our worst gaming/tech experience that week. Example: Gunrun:"I was a Spy in TF2 and this medic started healing me in the enemy base while I was cloaked" Guest1:"My iphone got stolen" Guest3: "Hearing PS3 Home got pushed back"
  7. What should have happend - We all talk about what we wanted to see happen in gaming in the previous week. Example: TheGunrun:"Red Alert 3 beta should have started up" Guest1:"A DDR game should have been announced for the PS3"
